Auburn police say a suspected burglar foiled his own getaway when he crashed a stolen motorcycle vehicle while fleeing a home break-in.
Officers responded to the motorcycle crash on Mikkelsen Drive about 3 p.m. Monday. Witnesses told officers that the motorcyclist, identified as Shane Wilson, ran from the crash toward Interstate 80.
Deputies from the Placer County Sheriff’s Office and a representative from the California Department of Forestry searched for the man. Auburn police eventually found Wilson at a business on Hilltop Drive.
An investigation determined that the motorcycle had been stolen from a home on Mikkelsen Drive and that the residence had been burglarized, according to a police press release.
Wilson, 29, of Foresthill, was arrested on suspicion of taking the motorcycle without the owner’s permission and burglary. His bail was set at $75,000.
