The Elk Grove Police Department is extending an offer to citizens who want to learn the ins-and-outs of policing.

The department is accepting applications from Elk Grove residents to attend its “Citizens Academy,” a 13-week program about patrol, investigations, arrest techniques, 911 communications and other aspects of policing.

The academy is free and meets on Tuesdays from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the department. Participants must be 18 years old and not have any felony convictions.

For more information, contact Officer Dave Monti at (916) 478-8126 or visit elkgrovepd.org. The academy begins Sept. 2.
