An inmate of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department’s Rio Cosumnes Correctional Facility in Elk Grove is reported back in custody following an early morning escape.
Sheriff’s officials said the 29-year-old man, whose name was not released, breached the security fence surrounding the facility and escaped from custody about 2:30 a.m. He was found within hours and detained by sheriff’s patrol deputies near Watt Avenue in the north Sacramento County area, according to a Sheriff’s Department news release. Officials said he was taken to a local hospital for treatment of cuts suffered during the escape.
The man was serving a two-year commitment for auto-theft-related charges and is back in custody at the Rio Cosumnes Correctional Facility. Sheriff’s officials said he faces an additional escape charge.
