TRUCKEE -- Skeletal remains found near Donner Lake by hikers last month have been identified as Duane Colin, 60, of Truckee, who was reported missing in March.
According to a Truckee Police Department news release, two hikers found the remains July 12 in a steep, heavily wooded area northwest of the lake.
The remains were identified as Colin's Monday by the Nevada County Sheriff's Coroner with the assistance of California State University at Chico's Anthropology Division.
Colin, who had a residence at the lake, was reported missing by his family, who had not seen him since March 28.
"There was nothing in the condition of the remains to suggest foul play," said Truckee Police Capt. Rob Leftwich."But, because the exact cause of death is unknown, we will be keeping the investigation open."
