Corvette crashes after hitting deer in Sutter County; driver dies

A Corvette hit a deer in Sutter County on Thursday night, causing the sports car to crash and catch fire, killing the driver. .
The California Highway Patrol said that a 47-year-old Meridian, Sutter County, man was driving westbound on Pass Road, east of Kellogg Road, in rural Sutter County at about 9:15 p.m. when the 1986 Chevrolet Corvette hit a deer in the roadway.
The car then spun out of control and off the road, where it hit a dirt embankment. It overturned and caught fire with the driver still in the vehicle.
Witnesses to the accident tried to get the driver out, but the Corvette became engulfed in flames. The driver’s name was not immediately available.
