Two arson fires set close to each other are being investigated in Elk Grove.
Cosumnes Fire Department investigators have determined that an arsonist set fire to a vehicle and adjacent apartment building in the 8900 block of El Mirador Drive. Firefighters responded to the fires at about 2:30 a.m. Friday.
Three people who live in the burned apartment, two adults and a three-year-old child, were able to flee the flames after being alerted by a car alarm. Seeing a fire in the downstairs living room, the three were able to exit through a second-floor window and onto an adjoining apartment roof top before making their way to the ground.
Cosumnes Fire investigators have determined that the arsons may be related, but were set separately. One fire did not extend into another.
Damage to the apartment was estimated at $50,000 to $75,000. The vehicle damage was set at $6,000.
Nobody was injured.
