A Sacramento man was charged with vehicular manslaughter and felony DUI after a two-car collision on Highway 99 early Saturday killed a passengar in the other car.
The California Highway Patrol said Jian Saeteurn, 34, was arrested at a residence after fleeing the scene on foot. Officer Michael Bradley, a CHP spokesman, was unable to provide any details on where Saeteurn was caught.
The incident took place at 3:50 a.m. in the northbound lane of 99 south of Stockton Boulevard. Officers said Saeteurn’s Infinity rear-ended a Dodge driven by Rajendra Parsad, 58, of Elk Grove.
Parsad lost control of his car, which crashed into a guardrail along the eastern edge of the highway. He suffered major injuries and a 49-year-old female passenger was killed. Her identity was not disclosed.
A second passenger, 26-year-old Richard Parsad, sustained minor injuries, Bradley said. He said it was unclear whether the two Parsads are related.
Saeteurn was booked into the Sacramento County jail on charges of vehicular manslaughter, felony hit-and-run and felony driving under the influence. He was being held on $1 million bail, according to jail records.
