Traffic reopened on Auburn Boulevard Sunday afternoon after water from a broken main damaged the road’s asphalt.
The water line on the eastbound side of Auburn Boulevard near Kitty Lane broke about 3:30 a.m., said Officer Jenna Berry, a spokeswoman for the California Highway Patrol. It flooded the road until water was turned off at about 5 a.m.
By then, the road suffered damage. “There was so much water, it affected the asphalt,” Berry said.
At 3 p.m., two-way traffic control was in place on both eastbound and westbound lanes, Berry said.
Cause of the breakage has not been released. Attempts to reach Sacramento Suburban Water District personnel by phone have been unsuccessful.
