The FBI is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest of individuals responsible for the Dec. 26 attempted arson at a Tracy mosque.
The incident, which is being investigated as a possible hate crime, occurred at Tracy Islamic Center in the 11000 block of West Larch Road.
On the morning after Christmas, the president of the Islamic center’s board discovered the remains of a Molotov cocktail outside the door of the mosque, according to a bureau news release. Law enforcement officers found the explosive device likely was thrown over a chain-link fence, possibly in an effort to set fire to the mosque. FBI officials said damage to the center was estimated at $1,000.
The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI’s Sacramento Field Office are continuing to investigate.
