A 14-year-old Sacramento High School student was credited with alerting a family to a fire at an Oak Park home Monday evening.
Sacramento Fire Department spokesman Chris Harvey said the fire was reported about 7 p.m. at 21st Avenue and 36th Street. He said neighbors saw a glow behind a residence.
Christian Beecher went to the home, alerted the five occupants and helped them get out safely, Harvey said. The teen then alerted an older woman who lived next door.
Harvey said the fire appeared to have started in the area of an attached garage at the back of the single-family residence and damaged the rear portion of the house. The occupants were displaced as a result of the fire. No injuries were reported.

Harvey said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
