Rescue crews recovered the body of an unidentified man Sunday floating face-down in the American River.
The body was found at the North Fork and Middle Fork junction, said California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection Capt. Bryan Carter.
Emergency calls alerted Cal Fire to the body around 12:30 p.m., Carter said, and a California Highway Patrol helicopter located the body downstream near Robie Point in Auburn. A boat team was sent to the area, with swimmers finding the man at 1:30 p.m.
Scott Liske, supervising ranger for the Auburn State Recreational Area, said he was the first person on scene after police were notified. Liske said the man was about 40 years old and wearing athletic clothing.
