A truck driver and train crew escaped injury Wednesday afternoon when a big rig and train collided at a railroad crossing on Fruitridge Road in Sacramento.
Chris Harvey, a Sacramento Fire Department spokesman, said the collision occurred about 5 p.m. He said the train cut the trailer in half.
Harvey said the crossing is controlled by signals and barriers, and circumstances leading up to the crash were unclear.
Service on light rail, which shares the rail corridor, was also disrupted due to the crash, Harvey said.

Fruitridge Road was closed to traffic in both directions for cleanup and investigation of the crash.
