A pedestrian in a crosswalk was killed over the weekend by a speeding vehicle that went out of control in Arden Arcade, according to the California Highway Patrol.
At about 11:45 p.m. Saturday, Bakari Deante Stafford, 23, of Sacramento was driving a sport-utility vehicle southbound on Watt Avenue near Marconi Avenue at high speed, according to a CHP news release.
At the same time, Jesse Thomas Hill, 27, was walking in a crosswalk at the intersection. Stafford attempted a left turn onto eastbound Marconi and lost control, according to officers.
The SUV spun out of control and struck Hill. He died at the scene.
Stafford’s SUV then struck a raised median, rolled over several times and came to rest in a parking lot. Stafford had minor injuries. The crash remained under investigation.
