The death of woman found under a freeway overpass Tuesday morning is being investigated by Sacramento police as a homicide.
Police received a call at 7:52 a.m. reporting that a woman had been found dead under an overpass near Broadway and Alhambra Boulevard.
When officers arrived, the Sacramento Fire Department was on scene and confirmed that the woman was deceased. Initially, fire and police personnel did not observe any visible trauma to the woman’s body, according to a Police Department news release. As a precaution, homicide detectives and crime scene investigators collected evidence at the scene and canvassed the area for potential witnesses.
Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives could not determine whether the woman was the victim of a homicide, police said, and the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office took over the death investigation.
On Wednesday, the Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy. Preliminary results showed that the woman had sustained trauma that appeared to be consistent with an assault, police said.
The woman’s name has not been released pending notification of family.
The Police Department’s homicide unit is investigating the case. No arrests have been made, and police said no motive has been established.
