Obituary: Dr. Michael H. Robbins, Mercy General chief of surgery

Dr. Michael H. Robbins, a prominent Sacramento physician who was chief of surgery at Mercy General Hospital in Sacramento, died June 7 of a sudden cardiac event, his family said. He was 60.

Dr. Robbins practiced neurosurgery in the Sacramento area since 1987 and was a board member of Hill Physicians Medical Group. He was vice president of the California Association of Neurological Surgeons and belonged to other professional organizations.

Born Feb. 14, 1952, in Cleveland, Dr. Robbins graduated from Case Western Reserve University and earned a medical degree from Medical College of Ohio. He completed his medical residency and a fellowship in neurological and orthopedic spine surgery at UC Davis Medical Center.

He lived in Sacramento with his wife of 33 years, Margo. He volunteered at Jesuit High School and was a member and avid golfer at Valley Hi Country Club in Elk Grove.

Besides his wife, survivors include two sons, Bradley Robbins of Folsom and Zachary Robbins of Boston; a daughter, Erica Robbins of Sacramento; two brothers, Stephen Robbins of Georgia and Larry Robbins of Las Vegas; and one grandson.

A memorial service was held Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
