Another person has died of flu in Sacramento County, bringing to four the number recently claimed by influenza.
Officials from the Sacramento County Department of Health said Wednesday flu had caused the death of a 46-year-old man. The man tested positive for H1N1, the predominant strain circulating so far in the 2013-14 season.
Over the weekend, influenza claimed the life of a woman in her 30s and a man in his 50s. They also tested positive for H1N1.
According to an alert to physicians from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Protection, H1N1 tends to strike mainly young and middle-aged adults in good health.
Last week, it was reported that the first death from flu this season occurred in Sacramento, a 61-year-old woman who was hospitalized shortly after experiencing symptoms.
A total of 20 people with flulike symptoms had been hospitalized in intensive care units.
