Purple carpet, cricket field part of Sacramento Kings opening night

A purple carpet for VIPs and a cricket match outside Sleep Train Arena. Sounds like a typical Sacramento Kings home opener.

The Kings announced today that VIPs will enter Wednesday’s regular season opener against the Denver Nuggets along a purple carpet, complete with risers for television cameras and space for “rope line” interviews.

And at 4 p.m., the Kings will hold a “FanFest” in front of the arena’s southeast and southwest entrances. The VIPs – presumably including members of the Kings’ new ownership group – will visit the fan event.

A cricket field will be set up near the southeast entrance. Details for what will take place on the field haven’t been revealed, but a press release from the Kings says to “draw your own conclusions.” It should be mentioned that cricket is the most popular sport of India, the birthplace of Kings majority owner Vivek Ranadive.
