Sacramento International Airport has closed nearly 2,000 spots in its economy parking lot, officials said. That section of the lot had been in temporary use; it is in deteriorated condition and is subject to flooding.

Officials said they have compensated by lowering the maximum daily parking price at their Daily Surface Lot from $15 to $12.

That lot is in front of the entrance to the multilevel parking garage and has been used as an overflow lot for the garage. Shuttle buses at that lot will take fliers to terminals A and B. The lot will be open 24 hours.

The economy lot fee is $10 per day. Officials warned that the economy lot is likely to fill during peak travel weeks, and that motorists will be required to park at other lots and pay the higher rates.

Officials suggest that fliers tune their radios to 530 AM when entering the airport for the latest parking information. Before making their trip, fliers can check for information online at www.sacramento.aero/smf/ to_and_from/parking.
