What California state workers earn: SEIU Local 1000

With raises kicking in for most California state employees on July 1, The State Worker is taking a look at 2013 salaries by union bargaining unit.

The numbers feeding this series of blog posts come from the state controller’s payroll database. The figures include only full-time employees represented by one of the 21 bargaining units that negotiate contracts with the state. Employees who earned less than $1,000 last year were excluded from the calculations. University of California and California State University employee earnings are not included in these figures.

We also are including data from 2011 and 2012 for purposes of comparison. During the three-year span these numbers cover, most state employees went on and off furlough twice. A new top-step pay increase kicked in last summer. Keep those events in mind as you look at the figures. First up:

SEIU Local 1000, bargaining units 1, 3, 4, 11 and 14. (On Tuesday, we’ll look at SEIU bargaining units 15, 17, 20, and 21.)

Unit 1: Professional, administrative and staff services

Number of employees in 2013: 46,736

2013 average full-time pay: $53,767
