Mercy Gulch Days
Mercy Gulch Days will kick off at 6 p.m. Friday. The three-day event celebrating Merced’s 125th birthday will be at Bob Hart Square at Canal and Main streets in downtown Merced. Saturday from noon to 10 p.m. there will be live music from Cottonwood Creek, Davy Crockett’s Revenge, It’s Just Us and Flashback. The 5K Blue Devil Dash begins 8 a.m. Sunday, as well as a 1K Blue Devil fun run for children. Sunday afternoon will include a Mexican Independence Day theme. UC Merced exhibit
The UC Merced Art Gallery is featuring an exhibit with art by Karen Le Cocq through Oct. 3. A reception will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday. The gallery is in Room 106 of the campus’ Social Sciences and Management Building. UC Merced is at 5200 Lake Road.
Merced College exhibit
Merced College Art Gallery will present an exhibition of photography and digital art by a collective of art instructors from Fresno City College. The exhibition is titled “Perspectives,” and the artists include Greg Hubbard, Thom Halls, Carolyn DeAnda, Larry Krauter, E.Z. Smith, Lenna Winther-Saxe and Diana Baldrica. The exhibition will open Monday and continue to Oct. 2. The public is invited to meet the artists at a reception from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Bands against bullying
The Atwater Police Activities League will sponsor a free concert from 2 to 6 p.m. Sept. 21 in Ralston Park. Performers include Lighthouse for the Blind, featuring Polo Jones, Mike Vanderhule and Rob Tracy. Additional bands include Monsters Rock, High Voltage, Banshees and Contagious. Guest vocalists from the Atwater Music Room are also scheduled to perform.
Star Club jam session
A jam session is scheduled from 9 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Star Club, 1331 W. Main St., Merced. No cover charge. You must be at least 21 to enter.
The city of Merced’s Recreation Department will be offering open dances from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 21, Oct. 5 and Oct. 19. This is not a dance lesson, but an opportunity for all dancers to come and practice their dance moves. Cost is $20 per person and pre-registration is required. Open mike night
Singer Cheryl Lockett will be the featured artist at the American Legion’s open mike night, 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 20 at 939 W. Main St. There is no cover charge. Lockett is scheduled to perform during the first hour. Other singers, musicians, poets and comedians are invited to take the mike afterward.
