A two-alarm fire tore through an east Sacramento restaurant early Friday morning, authorities said.

Firefighters were sent at 3:20 a.m. to Cielito Lindo Mexican Gastronomy at 37th and J Streets. Officials said the flames quickly grew into a two-alarm fire, and more units were dispatched.

Seven hours later, owners Ramiro and Claudia Alarcon, came to survey the damage. The kitchen and office, along with food supplies, were devoured in the flames, Ramiro Alarcon said. The fire was confined to the back of the building.

“Investigators told us the fire probably had something to do with the electric circuit or arson,” Ramiro Alarcon said in Spanish through a translator.

He is waiting for the insurance company to assess the damage before deciding whether to close the business, which opened just seven months ago.

“It’s my passion, my life. I want to stay open,” Ramiro Alarcon said.
