The U.S Forest Service plans prescribed fire operations around the Lake Tahoe basin throughout the rest of May, beginning this week at the Luther Pass Campground off Highway 89 near South Lake Tahoe.

Further operations will take place as weather, staffing and conditions allow. Locations may vary due to changing conditions.

Areas affected by the prescribed fires will be posted with road signs. Updates will be available on the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit's fire information line, (530) 543-2600, extension 6. Prescribed-fire notifications are available by emailing pa_ltbmu@fs.fed.us.

Smoke will be visible from the fires, which are conducted to reduce wildfire risk in the basin.
