A fire ripped through a Del Paso Heights apartment early Wednesday morning, causing residents to flee from the burning home.

Sacramento Fire Department crews responded about 3:40 a.m. to the 3600 block of Willow Street to find the single-story home with flames erupting from the back of the structure.

Firefighters kept flames from extending to adjacent structure and the fire was fairly quickly brought under control, according to a fire department spokesman. Firefighters were met outside by the occupants of the home who safely exited the burning apartment.
