Firefighters announced Friday that State Routes 4 and 89 in Alpine County reopened after being shut due to the Washington fire.
Forest roads in areas affected by the fire remain closed. Drivers are advised to proceed cautiously along Highways 4 and 89 as containment measures are in progress. Firefighters and equipment remain in the area.
Lightning in the Markleeville area ignited a fire on the evening of June 19. The flames spread toward Markleeville but firefighters successfully contained the fire before it reached the city. The U.S. Forest Service reported Friday evening that the fire was 94 percent contained.
