A fire early Saturday severely damaged a Victorian house that had been converted into three apartments on 3rd Street near U Street.
The Sacramento Fire Department, assisted by the West Sacramento Fire Department, responded to two alarms at 6 a.m., according to Sacramento department spokesman Chris Harvey. He said the blaze was quelled in 30 minutes by 40 firefighters, but the house is uninhabitable.
There were no injuries, Harvey said. Six occupants were evacuated and a dog was rescued by firefighters. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Sacramento Red Cross workers are helping place the building’s displaced residents in temporary housing, Harvey said.
