Backyard Easter egg hunts may have to be conducted in coats over pajamas as a low pressure system heads toward Northern California, sure to deliver snow in the Sierra and rain in the valley.
The change in the weather is expected to arrive in two systems from the Gulf of Alaska. The wet, chilly weather will be quite a change for the region after an extended period of dry and abnormally warm days.
The first system is expected to arrive Saturday night and continue through Sunday. A few inches of snow could fall above the 4,000-feet elevation level in the Sierra Nevada, according to the National Weather Service. Showers are predicted for the Sacramento region.
The second system is expected Tuesday. This weather event may bring a shorter but more intense shot of precipitation, according to NWS forecasters.
The second system is expected to be colder than the first. The cold air with the second system could bring snow levels down to 3,500-feet in the Sierra.
Until arrival of the spring storms, the weather should be clear and warm. The detailed, 7-day forecast for the Sacramento region from the NWS:
