Mainly cloudy skies Tuesday may turn into rain in the afternoon in the Sacramento area, the National Weather Service reports.
There is a 50 percent chance of rain Tuesday afternoon, with a south wind about 7 mph becoming west southwest. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch is possible, according to the weather service. There is a 20 percent chance of showers before midnight.
Wednesday is expected to be mostly cloudy before rain returns before midnight, with a chance of showers after that.
Unsettled weather is also forecast for the next few days in the Sierra Nevada, as scattered showers are expected after noon Tuesday, with a southwest wind from 10 to 20 mph forecast for the Truckee area, the weather service reports.
Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. On Wednesday night, 2 to 4 inches of snow is forecast for the area, with a south wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
