The first day of the U.S. Senior Open in Sacramento on Thursday is also expected to be the hottest day of the week.
A warmup begins today with a high of 94 degrees forecast. On Thursday, the first day the pros start swinging in actual competition after several days of practice, the National Weather Service expects the golfers will be laboring in 103-degree weather. The tournament is being held at Del Paso Country Club.
Fans can bring in one sealed, clear bottle of water, 24-ounces or less.
The cause of the heat wave is a strong high pressure system building across the region. It looks like the hottest days will be Thursday and Friday. The last two days of the golfing championship for the seniors will be cooler with highs on the weekend expected to be in the mid-to-low 90s.
