Cool weather is forecast through the weekend in Sacramento with daytime temperatures 7 to 10 degrees below normal for late September.
Early autumn can be quite warm in Sacramento. The normal high for this time of year is 86 degrees -- and 100-degree readings are not out of the question.
However, not this weekend. A high of just 76 degrees is forecast for Friday, 79 on Saturday and 79 on Sunday.
The cool weather comes in the wake of Thursday’s rainstorm that dropped 0.37 of an inch into the Sacramento’s official National Weather Service rainstorm bucket. The city is now at 139 percent of normal rainfall.
In the mountains, that giant hissing is the sound of the King fire dampened by Thursday’s rain. Unsettled weather will continue Friday in the Sierra, according to the NWS.
Isolated thunderstorms may develop with perhaps a little snow late Friday night in the higher elevations, including the Sonora Pass.
The detailed, 7-day forecast from the NWS for the Sacramento region:
Friday: A 20 percent chance of showers after 11am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 76. Calm wind becoming northwest 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon.
