A flash flood warning has been issued until 8 p.m. tonight for El Dorado and Alpine counties by the National Weather Service.
The Reno-based NWS office reports that “trained weather spotters reported a thunderstorm producing heavy rain across the warned area” and that flash flooding has already begun. The warning applies to Douglas County and Carson City in western Nevada in addition to the two Northern California counties.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has reported that roads are “completely unpassable” and that conditions are worsening, according to the NWS.
The NWS advises that drivers avoid areas where water covers the roadway and warns that flood waters are usually deeper than they appear.
