Thursday is expected to be the hottest day of the week in Sacramento.
Roofers will be starting work early to miss the heat of the late afternoon, Leatherby’s will be scooping plenty of ice cream and here’s hoping that the “Twilight Thursday” event at the zoo will at least be fairly comfortable this evening.
The National Weather Service is forecasting a high of 99 degrees Thursday, following a maximum of 98 on Wednesday. The day dawned with warmer temperatures than 24 hours earlier.
Sacramento’s all-time high for July 16 is 108 degrees. That mark was set in 1935.
While we won’t come anywhere near the record, it will still be hot up and down the Central Valley. A high of 98 is forecast in Stockton and Redding should swelter at 105 degrees.
Thursday may be a good day to stay inside with the air conditioning operating. It will still be hot when “Twilight Thursday” begins at the Sacramento Zoo.
Held every Thursday through July 30 from 5:30 to 8 p.m., zoo visitors can enjoy live music, food, beer and wine. The main stage features classic rock Thursday night, while the giraffes will be swaying their long necks to a jazz ensemble near their enclosure.
The dinner special is two chili cheese dogs and coleslaw. General zoo admission gets you in the gates, but beverages and food must be purchased.
Friday should also be a hot day, but the weekend looks slightly cooler. In Sacramento, a high of 93 is forecast for Saturday and temperatures should top out at 95 on Sunday.
