Two waves of wet weather are expected to move through Sacramento after Thursday’s partly sunny weather.
The first wave is expected to arrive after 10 p.m. Thursday night. It is forecast to deliver moderate amounts of rain and a few inches of snow at the highest elevations.
A second wave of rain is forecast for the north state Friday evening. The Friday-night-into-Saturday morning storm is predicted to be wetter than the first.
Also, snow will fall at lower levels in the Sierra Nevada, perhaps down to 4,500 feet.

Thursday: Areas of fog before 10 a.m. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 63. Calm wind becoming south-southeast 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon.
Thursday night: Rain, mainly after 10 p.m. The rain could be heavy at times. Low around 51. Light south-southeast wind increasing to 5 to 10 mph in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth- and quarter-inch possible.
Friday: Rain. The rain could be heavy at times. High near 58. South-southeast wind 16 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter- and half-inch possible.
Friday night: Rain. Low around 49. South-southeast wind around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Saturday: Rain likely before 10 a.m, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 10 a.m and 4 p.m, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4 .pm. Cloudy, with a high near 56. South wind around 14 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.
Saturday night: A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly before 10 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 42.
Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 56.
