A low-pressure system that brought rain to the Sacramento area and snow to the Sierra on Friday is expected to deliver another dose of precipitation later today.
The Sacramento area has cloudy skies this morning, with a chance of showers and possible thunderstorms after 11 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. With temperatures running 10 to 20 degrees below normal, a high around 67 degrees is forecast for today.
The National Weather Service predicts between 0.10 and 0.25 inches of rain in the Sacramento Valley today and less than 3 inches of snow in the Sierra, with the snow line around 5,500 feet elevation.
Traffic controls on Interstate 80 have lifted after heavy snow contributed to accidents and prompted closure of the freeway in the Sierra Friday afternoon. The California Department of Transportation reported shortly before 9 p.m. that 13 inches of snow had fallen at Kingvale. The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory effective until 9 a.m. Saturday.
The unsettled weather is expected to clear on Sunday as showers shift northward.
