The weather Friday will be pool-splashin’, sidewalk-egg fryin’ hot as the Sacramento area endures the first heat wave of 2016.
The high on Thursday was 100 degrees in Sacramento as a high pressure system kept a lid on the heat. Today’s high will be even toastier, to go with those eggs that you could fry on super-hot pavement this afternoon.
The high is predicted to reach 103 degrees in Sacramento around Friday evening commute time. While that temperature will have motorists driving home with air conditioning on full blast, 103 degrees will not be a record for June 3. The record is 107, a mark set 1960.
In anticipation of 100-degree temperatures, the city of Rancho Cordova announced that City Hall, at 2729 Prospect Park Drive, will serve as a cooling center from noon to 5 p.m. Friday. Signs will direct people to the cooling center room. Complimentary water and snacks will be provided, and movies will be available for viewing.
Look for the high temperature to dip some over the weekend. However, it will still be hot with another 100-degree reading expected in Sacramento on Saturday.
Here are more ways to beat the heat.
