The official start of summer is fast approaching, but the weather on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday may not reflect that.
The National Weather Service said there is a 30 percent chance of rain in Sacramento on Thursday and issued a winter storm watch for western Plumas County and the Lassen Park region from Wednesday evening through Thursday afternoon.
NWS said up to 2 inches of snow is possible above 6,000 feet and between 3 and 5 inches could fall above 7,000 feet in the Lassen Park region.
NWS expects most of the precipitation to occur later Wednesday night and early Thursday morning. There is also a chance of afternoon thunderstorms with hail and lighting in the northern Sacramento Valley on Thursday afternoon, NWS said.
Never miss a local story.
NWS advised travelers to prepare for the atypical conditions and to dress accordingly.
