Welcome to N.I.E.

The Sacramento Bee's Newspaper in Education (N.I.E.) program promotes literacy, connects students to their community and world, and provides teachers with a powerful educational tool, the daily newspaper. The educational services provided by The Bee are available to teachers at no cost. N.I.E. can make a difference in your classrooom.

Hispanic Heritage Photo Contest

The Hispanic Heritage Local Photography and Essay contest was intended to make students think about and appreciate Hispanic culture. The Sacramento region produced some fine entries and it is with enormous pride that we announce that three of the four winners were from this area. The high standard of all the entries impressed the judges immensely. This was a very enjoyable contest and we would like to thank you all for taking part. Start Your N.I.E. Subscription

Now The Sacramento Bee can be delivered electronically to your classroom. Online Lessons

Each week The Bee publishes a new online lesson for teachers, students and families who use the Internet and newspaper as learning resources. The lessons are tied to current events in the news and help learners extend their knowledge on a wide range of topics. This week's lesson is called "Serving Our Communities," a social studies lesson for grades 7-12. (read more)

California Central Valley Spelling Bee

The Sacramento Bee is proud once again to bring your students an opportunity to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. The 26th Annual California Central Valley Spelling Bee will take place on Wednesday, March 4, 2009. The champion will win an all-expense paid trip to Washington, DC to compete in the 2009 Scripps National Spelling Bee. (read more)
