HOW TO PLACE AN OBITUARY IN THE BEE
The Bee publishes two types of obituaries in the Our Region section of the newspaper and on the web at sacbee.com/obituaries.
Paid obituaries - also known as death notices or funeral notices - are published for a fee as listings on the "Remembrances" pages. For information about rates and deadlines, contact classified advertising at (916) 321-1323 or funeral@sacbee.com. You can also place the notice via our website by clicking here. Credit card prepayment will be required.
News obituaries are published free of charge and are written by staff reporters as news stories, based on research and interviews with relatives and others who knew the deceased person.
News obituaries generally are written about people in the Sacramento region who were well known, who made important community contributions or accomplishments, or who had unique or unusual life experiences that were newsworthy.
We welcome information about individuals whose stories would be of interest to readers. To recommend someone for a news obituary, please tell us briefly what was newsworthy or interesting about the person's life. You may send the information - along with your name and phone number - by e-mail to staff writer Bob Dávila at bdavila@sacbee.com or by fax to (916) 321-1109.
Because we receive more tips than we can accommodate, we cannot guarantee an obituary in all cases. In the interest of timeliness, we generally do not publish news obituaries more than two weeks after death.
For more information about news obituaries, contact staff writer Bob Dávila at (916) 321-1077 or bdavila@sacbee.com, or call the city desk at (916) 321-1020.
