Gov. Jerry Brown signed the School Success and Opportunity Act, Assembly Bill 1266, which provides transgender students with fair and equitable access to school facilities.

Petitioners are gathering signatures to get a referendum on the November 2014 ballot. I am a professor at Sacramento City College, and have seen petitioners on our campus. They are using scare tactics and providing students with inaccurate information to get them to sign.

These are the same tactics that were used during the Proposition 8 campaign. If you believe every student should have a fair shot at a quality education, please decline to sign the School Success and Opportunity Act.
