Re "To clean up government, bring back mandatory military service" (Viewpoints, Dana Milbank, Dec. 2): The idea of making 18-year-olds join the military to establish their citizenship should be promoted in the United States. I think anyone not fully invested in joining the military should not be there. Turning 18 should mean that it is time for these adults to make their own decisions. Having less participation in military service since World War II is something to be expected, not frowned upon. The patriotism and structure of this country does not only run through military service. These qualities are also manifest in our freedom, which includes making our own choices.
