Re “San Juan hit with claims” (Page A1, Dec. 16): As a former teacher for 23 years in the San Juan Unified School District, I found it to be a bullying culture for staff under all of the superintendents, so I have followed the articles on Superintendent Glenn Thompson with interest. Perhaps Thompson was brasher, less careful or just picked the wrong targets. My guess is that he came into this position without fear of reprisals because of the district’s established tolerance of bullying. I taught at six schools where the principals all exhibited some degree of bullying tactics. As a retired teacher, I met with district personnel when the district started programs to alleviate student bullying because, of course, bullying starts at the top.
