Re "New guy: He draws Sutter" (Forum, Jack Ohman, Dec. 29): Were I to imagine the quintessential Jack Ohman cartoon, it would frame a walk down a raucous carnival midway, carnies and pitchmen barking into balloons. Along the way, we'd see political and cultural representations from a menagerie of characters. Rocket trails would lead to colorful firework bursts, this fertile tableau yielding much humorous critique and pithy opinion. As his cartoons show, Ohman speaks to many issues. From his blog, we see some even relate to himself. I also enjoy his maps. They underscore a savvy sense of political and cultural geography. Not acquainted with him, I brushed past him once and then sent an e-mail about the encounter, making an innocent remark about his hair. Alas, my insensitivity may exempt me from further cordiality, though I do wish him a happy first anniversary.
