Re "Unemployment crisis is Democrats' fault" (Letters, Jan. 2): Letter writer David Froloff writes that our current high unemployment as something caused by the public policy since the Democrat-controlled Congress in 2007. Here is a list of presidential administrations, with the jobs produced (in thousands) during their tenure: Jimmy Carter, 10,399; George W. Bush, 1,116; Barack Obama, 1,208. One might excuse Obama since the Republicans in Congress have refused all fiscal expansion. The figure quoted for Obama is also after only five, not eight years. A New York Times article concludes that, over all, jobs have risen at a faster rate under Democrats than Republicans. Meanwhile, socialist Germany's unemployment rate is 5.2 percent while the United States' rate is 7.8 percent. -- Mark Dempsey, Orangevale
