Re "Imagine governors' Rose Bowl bet" (Letters, Jan. 1): I enjoyed Steve Franks' clever letter with a large guffaw at the final sentence, which suggested that, if Michigan State lost the Rose Bowl, the Michigan governor would happily give Detroit to Gov. Jerry Brown. But I think to make the imaginary bet really equitable, Brown should have promised that, if Michigan State won, he would give Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder the entire California State Legislature – permanently. Better a bankrupt city than bankrupt politicians.
