Re "Tougher measures are needed now to prevent another credit card breach" (Viewpoints, Jan. 4): I am one of the unlucky customers who had a credit card hit during a recent major hacking incident. My bank, Golden 1, was on top of the situation immediately and had excellent communication with its customers. However, there was an inconvenient period of being unable to use my card, at the peak of the Christmas shopping season. I returned to what I did in the dark ages, using only cash for purchases. A nice benefit was that I discovered my impulse and non-essential buying dropped dramatically. Call me a Luddite, but I plan to return to using cash for purchases and saving the credit cards only for emergency. Now, if merchants would only give a discount for cash, since they do not have to cover any fees, I would really be saving.
