GOP makes war on the poor

Re “The problem with income inequality” (Viewpoints, Jan. 18): According to David Brooks, the poor in this country are all dropouts who come from broken families and are only capable of low-skill work. According to him, the poor also refuse to take full-time jobs and are predominately single mothers. This is classic conservatism, in which the victims get the blame. Only the Republicans could turn the War on Poverty into a war on the poor.
