Re "Long-term answers needed" (Letters, Jan. 21): It's true that Northern California residents don't have the urgency regarding water conservation that residents of the Southwest have. When I lived in New Mexico, our sinks drained directly into buckets to provide a quick use of graywater. Longtime residents there also would put a half-finished glass of water into the refrigerator rather than throw it out. That's when you get serious about water conservation.
