Re “Judge will be key to arena vote” (Our Region, Marcos Breton, Jan. 26): Marcos Breton finds the people leading the anti-arena campaign utterly disappointing. Imagine, they took seven hours to issue a public statement. Breton is disappointed that people don't rush to say something, choosing instead to respond after hours of deliberation? I wonder how many hours it took Breton to jump to the conclusion that Sacramento Taxpayers Opposed to Pork (STOP) didn't know who was going to pay the lawyers. Breton is also upset that some petitions had incomplete sentences. Wow. This remark was in a column that offers "Seven hours?" and "But in practice--in this case--not so much" as sentences. Mostly, I object to Breton's name-calling as a substitute for reasoned opinion. He describes the anti-arena forces as "less than impressive," "utterly disappointing," "despicable" and "a motley crew," among other labels.
