Re “Students file suit to retire tenure for public schools ” (Page A4, Jan. 27): In California, there are too many public school teachers who get tenure because of their minimal attendance rather than, more importantly, the quality of their work. Repeatedly, people blame students on the decline of the California public school system when, in reality, the students are the victims. The school system's leniency on teachers has lead to a lack of proper education for many students in California. In addition, the rule of seniority is inapplicable when determining whether a teacher is fit to educate children. Hopefully, the defendants find success in the pursuance of abandoning tenure and seniority.
