Re “Arena groups sue to get on ballot” (Page A1, Jan. 30): These groups understand how important it is to spend taxpayer money on police, fire, parks, libraries, all critical costs of the city in a slowly recovering economy. The Kings team owners are among the richest people in the world. They can easily afford to pay for the palace for their team. The reason city taxpayers are being asked to ante up is the bureaucrats at National Basketball Association headquarters. It’s typical of the small-minded thinking of such people that they feel taxpayers must pay. If not, Sacramento will lose the Kings, and a palace won't be built. All the mayor's good efforts will be for naught. So don't blame the team owners or the groups trying to get this issue on the ballot. Blame the NBA bureaucrats. Let's hope the owners can force these small-minded people to change.
