Re "Youths' mental health needs spike" (Page A1, Feb 2): It's an an overwhelming understatement to say services are stretched too thin. They have always been too thin. Rather than tackle this problem, the situation keeps getting worse.

Families have been devastated, and not only the families directly related to the child with the disease. We all are affected. And even now with all the disastrous happenings in the United States, we keep going on with very little effort to remediate the situation. I applaud Dr. Jason Bynum's efforts and the few facilities trying to do their best. It's a situation that deserves attention, planning, money and planning, or we will continue to have disastrous situations.
